Pleasure Principle…

Trailblazing Glasgow collective Numbers and the team behind Dedbeat festival will next year join forces to present the inaugural Pleasure Principle, a new weekend music event set to take place in a sprawling green valley near Newquay, Cornwall UK, on April 26th, 27th & 28th 2013. The first wave of the line up takes in the cream of contemporary underground dance and Hip Hop, with confirmed acts including TNGHT (Hudson Mohawke & Lunice), Omar S, Rustie, Robert Hood, Legowelt, John Talabot, Just Blaze, Ben UFO and Numbers’ own Jackmaster, forming part of their 10th Anniversary celebrations in 2013.

Dedbeat festival ran annually from 2001-2004 and enjoyed 4 concurrent sell-out events at a coastal UK holiday park, playing host to leftfield heroes from Aphex Twin to Madlib, and it was here that the Norfolk-born London-based festival team first crossed paths with their kindred spirits from Scotland.

“We had a lot of fun in the early days,” Sam Reid of Dedbeat recalls, “since there was nothing around really like it. The intention was always to bring it back in a new form but with the same music standards. And since Numbers are old friends who we first met through Dedbeat, the new association for Pleasure Principle has genuine meaning.”

Numbers has evolved from early parties in Glasgow to become a truly recognisable force in dance music and Pleasure Principle will coincide with their 10th anniversary. With a keen ear for talent, consistently throwing some of the most seminal parties of the last few years including showcases at major festivals worldwide, their labels (Numbers, Wireblock, Stuff Records & Dress 2 Sweat) have put out acclaimed releases from Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, SBTRKT, Mosca and Jamie xx to name a few.

They commented, “This weekend is all about combining music and the life-affirming pleasure of escaping the daily grind. It has always been an ambition of ours to put on a festival and to be doing this with Dedbeat, a crew we looked up to when we started Numbers nearly a decade ago, makes it even more special for us.”
